This studio explores mass timber structures with the theme of Mass Timber Effects.
The objective is to design a timber structure that functions holistically as
a structural system, spatial organizer, and facade - the project positions the mass timber structure as the primary identity-defining feature.
This project is conceived as a multifunctional community hub designed to engage San Francisco residents and visitors with wine culture while fostering social interaction. The building's distinctive form serves as an urban landmark, drawing visitors with its visual impact. The interplay of sunlight—filtered through the facade and introduced via rooftop apertures—creates an immersive experience reminiscent of wandering through a forest embedded within the urban fabric.
Programmatically, the project incorporates parking facilities, retail spaces, and a fully integrated wine production chain. These are complemented by a suite of cultural and experiential amenities, including wine tastings, a market, a restaurant, and a performance venue. The spatial organization underscores the synergy between wine production and community engagement, offering a cohesive narrative that aligns with the project's conceptual and functional goals.
