This project is a study of soft skin - a semi-transparent facade that brushes up against the marred city. The outer shell presents a seductive skin of the activities within, enticing passers-by.
Inside, the project stacks markets layer by layer: a wholesale produce market, the Oakland Old Farmers Market, a culture kitchen, restaurants, and a night market.
These food spaces run at different times - the wholesale market opens early on weekdays, the Oakland Old Farmers Market on weekends, the night market after dark, and the restaurants by their own hours. Stacked together, they keep the site occupied with food at any hour, making the building a condenser of social life.
